Look Out World Presents...Mikette!

Dominique "Mikette" Wilson: Newark, NJ's First Female Michael Jackson Tribute/Impersonator!

New Jersey Talent all the Way!!!!

Photobucket

Here's her story:

Dominique Wilson had to be no older than four years old when she discovered her love for Michael Jackson. She remembers watching "The Wiz" and "Moonwalker" listening to his records and watching his music videos on television. The very first dance routine she learned was "Thriller" and that was to help her overcome her fear of the zombies. Then she began teaching herself the moonwalk not too far later at the age of seven.
What inspires her about Michael is that he is a genius in his own right. He dared to be different and whatever he did, he broke down barriers. He has done so much for music and for mankind as well. He inspires her to follow her heart and be true to herself.

For her to be a Tribute Artist is to not only learn his dance moves but to show the world the impact Michael has to make changes and to show love. Being a Tribute Artist is to pay tribute to Michael and promote the same love and spirit he did to the world. Also to show that Michael Jackson will live forever.

December 18, 2011, Dominique "Mikette" Wilson received a Resolution from the city of Newark, NJ for her unwavering and heartfelt commitment to the West Ward within the city of Newark, NJ. She has received a Certificate of Appreciation as well for her participation in the One Ward, One Family Dinner event. She is also acknowledged as being the first female Michael Jackson Tribute/Impersonator in the city and her name, Dominique "Mikette" Wilson will be archived in Newark's history. She has performed in many local events, even at the Greater Newark Conservancy's Fall Block Party and before many elected officials within the city of Newark and one of New Jersey's State Senators Ronald Rice, Sr. In the words of Mikette, "I'm turning Newark, NJ into Newark, MJ!"

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! So thankful to have a wonderful family and friends in my life. Thank you!

Mikette as a Hand Turkey. Made it on Google on Thanksgiving Eve after I helped hand out turkeys at the church. Boy, were they heavy, but I got a workout and made someone's day special!

Fall Block Party and Performance

Nov. 5th, was the annual Greater Newark Conservancy's Fall Block Party here in my hometown Newark, NJ. They are the ones responsible for helping my street obtain a community garden. This festival closes out the gardening season and brings people together one last time before the winter. They have many activities, such a raffles, pie tasting contests, apple tasting, games, apple tasting, and information booths. I was so happy that I was there main entertainment as a MJ Tribute Artist performer.

When I heard about the event and knew I was gonna be the entertainment, I quickly gathered my music together. I also had the perfect outfit idea as well. I chose and mixed five songs, "Another Part of Me," "Can't Let Her Get Away," "Billie Jean," "Jam," and "Wanna Be Startin' Something." So since it was a Fall event and in the "Jam" video he wore an orange button up, I decided to wear that outfit. It fits the fall color scheme.

My mom and my sister were on this adventure with me. When we arrived at the place, some people were looking at me like "Why is this girl dressed like Michael Jackson?" They had no clue I was their entertainment. Others that didn't know, didn't care, they were happy to see me.

People then became excited when they heard I was gonna perform. I performed outside in the sundial section and there were step seats surrounding it. This is my second time performing in Newark, so I was a little nervous, but like I thought, they showed me love. They were sticking by me as I danced my heart out. Michael was sitting right in the front row, cheering me on. After I was done people began to hug me, shake my hand and take photos with me. They were impressed and I was happy that I showed people how much Michael means to me. My mom and sister were also excited. My mom was proud of me. She also won the grand raffle prize, too. LOL

Rest In Peace Heavy D

Photobucket

May 24, 1967 – November 8, 2011

I still can't believe that actor, rapper, record producer, singer and former leader of Heavy D & the Boyz, has passed away. He was only 44 years-old. I grew up listening to his music and admired his style. He had so many hit songs, such as "Now That We Found Love." He appeared in Michael Jackson's "Jam" video and Janet Jackson's "Alright" video. He will always be remembered as what he called himself the "Overweight Lover" but overall we have nothing but love for you, Heavy.

Halloween 2011

Once again another fun Halloween as MJ. I had dressed in my Dangerous tour outfit, since most of my costumers didn't get to see me in it. They enjoyed coming in and seeing me as the King of Pop. I even got to hand out candy to the children that were out getting candy. I always love the look on peoples' faces when they see me. Many ask me to bust a move, which I do. Then they are also shocked to see that I'm a woman.

After work, I went to a Halloween party with my mom and sister at a martial arts school. My sister's friend is the Master of the school, Master G's School of Martial Arts and Physical Fitness in Newark, NJ. The people who attended were students of all ages, parents and friends. The DJ, also an instructor, played Halloween related tunes like the "Monster Mash," the "Halloween" theme song and the mother of the all "Thriller." He even played "Ghosts" and along with his songs he had a monitor showing video scenes. You know I was glued with Michael Jackson. I moonwalked for the children and showed a few how to do it too. Then he began to play line dances such as the "Cha Cha Slide," Electric Slide," "The Cupid Shuffle," and more. Then as the night winded down he played a number of Michael Jackson songs. I danced, took photos, and had a great time with great people.

Amateur Night at the Apollo: Moses Harper Pt. 4

BIG CONGRATS TO MY BIG SIS AND MJ TRIBUTE ARTIST MOSES HARPER! SUPER TOP DOG WINNER 2011!

Photobucket

I'm still amazed about the show last night. I'm so proud of how she has accomplished her goal and won the grand prize. She truly deserved this moment and she couldn't have shared it with any better people than her extended Michael Jackson family. I know she felt our energy growing stronger every minute of the show as we anticipated her performance. Then as she performed we all went wild. Of course, I had to be in the lower level towards the aisle so I can hype the crowd up.

Photobucket

We all arranged to wear Michael tribute clothing and roll deep. People were wondering why we were dressed that way. I wore my black sequin jacket, a sequin shirt that made MJ photos on it, my light up glove, my black hat and loafers. I even had on my MJ buttons. It was so cool to see that we all represented Michael.

Photobucket

The show overall was quite interesting. This show showcased the best of the best. Only one person was booed and he was playing my favorite MJ ballad "Human Nature" on the saxophone. He was the first act for the adult segment. His supporters were very upset so they tried to boo everyone else who came out. They almost did until they saw Moses. They wasn't expecting her to put on a show like that. The crowd was jamming and dancing along with her. She had them swept away.

Photobucket

When it came down to the judging segment, we began to yell out her name and cheer before they got to her. There was another talented duo that performed last time and placed second last time, Unknown Lyric. They played the violin and guitar playing hip-hop and r&b. They were mind blowing. This time they had loud cheers and made it the final two. When the judges called her out we yelled and screamed at the top of our lungs. But when the judges called their name the crowd erupted again, and I couldn't breathe that entire time. But so happy that it was a tie. I was so extremely happy for her. We are all happy for her.

Art, Peace and Music Festival 2011

Yesterday I had the chance to perform officially as "Mikette" for the first time in my hometown, Newark, NJ, for the 1st Annual Art, Peace and Music Festival. I wasn't intending on performing but given the opportunity, I jumped to it. I was definitely excited to show Newark my love and appreciation for Michael Jackson.

Photobucket

My boyfriend, Richie, and I set out on this adventure. We arrived at Washington Park and I was the only one in a costume. Of course, I was the alittle embarassed, but I got over it. People were waving at me and I made people smile just by being there. Then we decided to get something to eat while we waited for my friend, Lamar. He's the MJ dancer I met at NJPAC this past September. After we ate, we decided to make one last round around the festival to see if we saw him, but ran into the event coordinator. He asked me if I could dance like Michael and I was like "Of course!" Not realizing he was the event coordinator and he was about to put me on stage.

I was introduced to the audience as "Mikette." As I began to perform, it felt as if Michael's spirit jumped inside of my body and took over me. The music blasted "Billie Jean" and I became "Mikette." I gave them my all and they enjoyed me. Then Lamar came out and performed "Another Part of Me." Then he brought me back out with him to finalize the performance and we did an amazing job. I definitely enjoyed myself and the audience was mesmerized by our dance moves.

Photobucket

I was so happy I was able to help out the show by filling in a gap due to a performer not being available and gave a memerable performance. The festival in general was wonderful. They had fashion shows, spoken word poetry, singing and dancing. There were sculptures around as well from different artists in the Newark area. Marching bands that participated in the parade before the festival performed as well. It was such a beautiful event and I was glad I was not only there but a part of it as well.

Here are some photos from the day.
