Flashback Movie: Waiting To Exhale
I've been wanting to do a post about this movie for the longest. What better time to do but now as we are remembering the great Whitney Houston. This movie is one of her main starring roles, like "The Bodyguard" and "The Preacher's Wife." This movie is actually my favorite movie has ever made. I do remember seeing this movie in the movies back in 1995 and when it is on television, I can't help but to see it over and over again. This movie is actually based on the book by author Terry McMillan.

Flashback Movie: Dance With Me
I just fell in love with movie the first time I laid eyes on it back in 1998. I don't know what caught my eyes more, the smooth dance moves or Chayanne's beautiful smile. The chemistry could not have been better between him and the gorgeous and talented Vanessa Williams. When I had it on VHS, I watched it so many times that I know the whole movie front and back and word for word. I also always wanted to join a Latin dance class to learn the moves. So glad it is airing back on cable.
The theme of the movie is a young man, Rafael, from Cuba moves to America after his mother dies. He wants to know more about his family life. In the process, he takes a job cleaning a dance studio with a close friend to his mother, John. There he meets so many interesting people, including Ruby. She's a dance instructor who competes professionally in Latin dancing. Their first date together causes a bit of a problem between the two but eventually grows. Ruby then becomes scared to commit and she also has a son by a professional dancer, Julian, who has left them before. Will their relationship ever grow?
Then there is the relationship between Rafael and John. Rafael's mother has had an affair with an American man and this leaves Rafael to wonder if this man can be his real father. He also is confronted by John about the issue when he heard Ruby tell him what Rafael had said. But what could have happened. Is John his father for real?
The movies also packed with great music. I just love the soundtrack. There are so many different types of music that appears in the movie that all couldn't fit on the soundtrack. The dancers are wonderful and the dance sequences are enough to make you want to sign up for the next dance class. Then where ever there is dancing there are beautiful costumes. The colors and styles are definitely memorable. You are bound to fall in love with them. I know you will love this movie.

Article Response: 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' reduces and reuses on set
Article Link 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' reduces and reuses on set | MNN - Mother Nature Network
Response I love the fact that people are trying to make life more eco-friendly. People are using less energy and resources to be safer on the environment. People are building "green" buildings and environmentally safe surroundings. I love the fact that people are becoming more aware of how we need to protect the environment to maintain a bright future.

Captain Jack Sparrow portrayed by Johnny Depp
After reading this article, I was so glad to see how even the movie industry are valuing the environment while creating movies. The fact that they were reusing some of the sets from the previous films was awesome. The last film 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' was released in 2007 and for them to maintain sets from four years ago is genius. There was also plenty of outdoor shots in the film, shot in Hawaii, puerto Rico, and London, to show a more natural environment. It was beautiful to look at as well. Well don't want to say to much detail, because the movie is released tomorrow and I saw an advanced screening yesterday. Hope you all try to see all the beauty as well as the adventure within it and don't mean just stare at Mr. Johnny Depp the whole time. :-)

POTC: On Stranger Tides
Tuesday, I had won more tickets from 98.7 Kiss FM. This time to go to the advance screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at AMC Empire 25 on 42nd Street in New York City on Wednesday. My friend and traveling buddy won tickets as well. I couldn’t make it to the Kiss FM studio to pick up my reservation. She was able to get hers the same day as the show so we were out for another adventure. The whole day was eventful for me. It rained so much all day long. Then my area had a blackout for about an hour along with the flooding rain.
The promotional advertisement

The movie overall was great. I’ve seen all four of the POTC installments. They are always adventurous and full of action. I just love Johnny Depp as he portrays Captain Jack Sparrow. He always puts on a memorable performance and keeps you entertained. I can’t give up too much information about the film because it is being released Friday May 20th. Yea the day before "Judgment Day." I do know one thing; I do want to see this movie again with my sweetheart, Rich, especially in 3D. I know he'll love it.
Here's some rain photos from Newark, NJ. I took with my cellphone while at work.

Favorite Science Movies
I am not ranking the movies but I am listing them to show you all that I love these movies. I know there are more but these are my favorites. Let me know which ones you like or some you like that are not listed. Some of these movies are fairly recent, but I will list a few classic movies as well. Eventually I will create a classic movie list with movies such as The Poseidon Adventure and Godzilla.

As we know, movies are made for entertainment value but some have some sort of scientific facts. Even though I can call this a science fiction list, things in some of these movies can actually happen. I know some of these movies have encouraged me to want to know more about the earth and study about the environment that surrounds me. Some are about subjects I love such as the weather, geology, astronomy, and ecology.
Here’s my list:
1.Twister – 1996 film about a woman and her storm chasing team hunting tornadoes and learning more about them after seeing her father die from one when she was a child.
2.The Day After Tomorrow – 2004 film about the effects of global warming causing a climatic shift and major storms, which leads to the next Ice Age.
3.An Inconvenient Truth – 2006 documentary about climate change and global warming giving people the awareness of the environment and their affects narrated by former Vice-president Al Gore.
4.Deep Impact – 1998 film about a comet on a collision course with Earth and a space mission to stop it.
5.Armageddon – 1998 film about asteroids colliding with Earth and a mission to stop the major one.
6.The Core – 2003 film about a collapse in the Earth’s electromagnetic field causing major sun radiation and a mission to restart its rotation.
7.Independence Day – 1996 film about aliens attacking Earth and the world fighting back to claim what belongs to them.
8.2012 – 2009 film that gives reference to the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar and the 2012 phenomenon that devastating events will end the world.
9.War of the Worlds – 2005 remake about aliens planning on taking over the world.
10.Knowing – 2009 film about a man who breaks down number sequences from a time capsule that predicted major disastrous events and shows that coronal mass ejection solar flare will end the world.
11.Lost in Space – 1998 film about who becomes trapped on a strange planet and has to find a way to survive and escape.
12.Volcano – 1997 film about a volcano that forms in Los Angeles after a major earthquake strikes.

Eco-Friendly Kid Movies
With so many growing environmental issues happening these movies are very informative and entertaining for children. I feel children can break the cycle and this is a great way for them to learn the message. Many of the older movies made me the way I am today. These are films that are eco-themed and the issues that are addressed.

Wall-E (2008): consumerism, pollution
Happy Feet (2006): commercial overfishing, pollution
Fern Gully The Last Rainforest (1992): destruction of rainforests, conservation
Earth (2009): endangered species, environmental change, conservation, animal rights
Oceans (2010): animal rights, conservation, endangered species
Bambi (1942): conservation, animal rights
Yogi Bear (2010): conservation, commercial development, endangered species
Furry Vengeance (2010): commercial development, conservation
Over the Hedge (2006): commercial development, conservation
Free Willy (1993): animal rights
Finding Nemo (2003): animal rights, conservation, Great Barrier Reef
Chicken Run (2000): animal rights
The Lorax (1972): conservation, commercial development
Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001): animal rights

Happy Birthday to the late Audrey Hepburn
This stunning actress would have been celebrating her 82nd birthday today. She was an icon, not only in acting but fashion as well. She popularized the "simple but chic" style and the "little black dress." Her petite body also made skinny black jeans a classic style as well. She was an amazing performer as well as dancer in her films. To name a few "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "Funny Face" and "Sabrina." She will always be a icon and will live on as a legend.

Flashback Movie: What A Girl Wants
This movie is one my favorite movies ever. With the Royal Wedding around the corner, the London scene puts me in mind of this movie. Every time it is on television I just have to watch it and of course I have the DVD. Amanda Bynes puts on her best performance to date. She has energy, style and charisma. Her energy just radiates.
The theme of the movie revolves around a young woman seeking her father in London after she finds out he doesn't know he had a daughter when her parents separated. Not only is he her father a British Lord and but he is also running to become a politician. When she shows up at his mansion she turns his (and half of London's) world upside down. This is definitely a movie that needs to be in your collection. I wish I could tell you more but like I always say "You have to see it for yourself."

Flashback Movie: B.A.P.S
For those who don't know, B.A.P.S stands for Black American Princesses. I found this dvd in my house and I just decided to watch it. Goodness, I can't believe I forgot how funny this movie is and how it can be a tear jerker at times. This movie shows a side of Halle Berry that most people can't even recall. Her comedic performance was awesome and her chemistry with Natalie Desselle was outstanding. Then when they are with veteran actor Martin Landau, they are unstoppable. Who would have thought that they would connect and create a movie to remember?
Halle Berry plays Nesi and Natalie Desselle plays Mickey and they are best friends from Georgia with dreams of owning their own business, which is a beauty salon and restaurant combined together. So with hopes of becoming video girls in LA for rapper Heavy D falling flat, they land a new deal. This deal is for Nesi to impersonate the granddaughter of wealthy elderly man who is very ill. But things do turn around and you have to watch it to find out the rest.

Rest In Peace Elizabeth Taylor
English-American actress, Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor, has died. She was 79 years-old. She is considered one of the greatest actresses of classical Hollywood cinema also known as Hollywood’s Golden Age. She is known for movies such as “Cleopatra,” “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” and many more. She is known more recently for being one of Michael Jackson’s best friends. Their friendship was strong from the 1980s up until his death in 2009. Her last public appearance was his private funeral service. My prayers go out to her family and friends. She was full of beauty, style and grace. She will definitely be missed and will always be a legend.

Flashback Movie: Beverly Hills Cop Series
Since December of last year, Beverly Hills Cop, Beverly Hills Cop II, and Beverly Hills Cop III has seemed to air almost everyday since. It is cool to me because it is one of my favorite movie series to date. I even love Eddie Murphy's acting and comedic style and spontaneity as Axel Foley. His chemistry with Judge Reinhold (Det. Billy Rosewood) and John Ashton (Sgt. John Taggart) in the first two films are classic. Opposites definitely attract between them. I can never get enough of them.
Another favorite character I love is Inspector Douglas Todd who is portrayed by Gilbert Hill. He's a little rough around the edges and he runs his precinct by any means necessary, yet has a caring attitude towards Axel which is so cool. He is stern towards him but more like a father figure. He looks out for Axel by letting him keep his job no matter how many times he slips up. You can tell that he does have a big heart. I was devastated when he was killed off in third film.
I like how each movie has Axel fighting for justice by breaking major laws as a police officer, but always prevails. In the mean time, he still manages to make up jokes and have fun on the side. These movie have been on heavy rotation for the past few months. My mom and I search the TV guide for it almost everyday. If we're lucky we'll catch them back to back. Keep your eyes out for these movies especially if you haven't them. Eddie Murphy at his best. Oh wow, Talk to yall later, it's on NOW! :-)

My 25 Favorite Cool Geek(s) Movies
Geeks, nerds, dweebs, or whatever you may called them have proved to be the coolest and hottest Hollywood commodity. These movies made it cool to be a geek. Also shows that they will rule the world. I thought of this topic while watching "Revenge of the Nerds," one of my favorites.

1. Revenge of the Nerds: Come on who can resist Lewis Skolnick, Gilbert Lowe, Arnold Poindexter, Harold Wormser, Dudley "Booger" Dawson, Takashi Toshiro, Lamar Latrell, and Judy?
2. Weird Science: Anyone who can hook up a machine to make a hot person can be my friend. Just create a hot guy for me and I’m happy.
3. Real Genius: With Val Kilmer as Chris Knight, I would sit next to him not to copy answers, but to get his number.
4. Pretty in Pink: Molly Ringwald is so lucky to have a hot best friend like Philip F. "Duckie" Dale. I would have chosen him over Blane McDonough any day.
5. Sixteen Candles: Why didn’t Samantha choose Ted, aka "The Geek?” He was quite cool to me.
6. Superbad: Evan, Seth and “McLovin.” Enough said.
7. The Net: Angela Bennett is a wiz on the computer and one tough woman getting her identity back.
8. One Crazy Summer: Hoops McCann really proves that he can get the girl.
9. Back to the Future: Marty McFly was cool but young George McFly was hot!
10. Short Circuit: Johnny 5 was awesome!
11. The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes: Kurt Russell as Dexter Reilly is the geek we dream about.
12. The Nutty Professor (1996): Professor Klump or Buddy Love? I say “Hey Professor!”
13. The Social Network: Ok, Mark Zuckerberg is already something to look at, now having Jesse Eisenberg playing him just doubled it. Can I add you to my friend list?
14. Tron: If you thought the effects were awesome, it’s only because of Kevin Flynn.
15. The Matrix: Laurence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves as Morpheus and Neo is enough for me to believe love is “real.”
16. Little Giants: These misfits proved they will not be defeated.
17. Lucas: Lucas Bly was just a cutie and a proved that there is a such thing as a "smart jock."
18. Can't Buy Me Love: Cynthia "Cindy" Mancini made a good choice with cutie Ronald Miller.
19. She's All That: Zach Siler couldn't resist Laney Boggs cause was is all that.
20. Welcome to the Dollhouse: Dawn Wiener was irresistable to the tough kid, Brandon McCarthy.
21. Napoleon Dynamite: I just fell in love with him and he has some cool dance moves.
22. American Pie: Jim Levenstein can do a chair dance for me anyday and I'll be his fellow band geek friend.
23. Cooley High: Everybody dug Richard "Cochise" Morris, but I loved Leroy "Preacher" Jackson.
24. The Breakfast Club: Can I spend Saturday morning detention with Brian Johnson? He's the only one without a girlfriend.

Good Hair: A Good Documentary
Good Hair which is a documentary by Chris Rock is very informative about the knowledge of African American hair and hair in general. I love the part where he describes relaxers which is made from the chemical Ammonium thioglycolate and it is used to straighten hair. I remember my first perm or relaxer, I was about six or seven years-old. It was a sort of painful experience. It burned like hell lol but I made it through. My hair has always been course and had to be pressed with a straightening comb and curled with curling irons. So when I had to get a perm, I would rather have a perm than the heat of hot metal touching my ears or back of my neck. It was also a shorter process to go through. I was so happy to show off my nice, silky smooth hair but one mistake can damage your hair. My bad experience with a perm was having it take my hair out from being to strong. You would think I would stop, nope so addicted.
Another segment of the documentary I liked was the segment about weaves. I was never a fan of weaves but I have worn a few in my days. I first started with ponytail pieces and braiding hair. When I wore my first ponytail piece, I thought I was so fly lol until this girl yanked it clean off my head lol. I wore a few long quick weaves, wigs as well as back pieces. But nothing brings me out more than my natural hair. After watching Good Hair, they show where human hair weaves come from. It is not surprising to me that it comes from India because they have beautiful hair quality, but these people sacrifice their hair to make our hair look good.
Kudos to Chris Rock and everyone who contributed to the making of this documentary because it makes me look at hair a whole different way.

2012 - What are your thoughts?
2012 is supposed to be the new blockbuster film. I saw it this weekend and it was a very good movie. The effects were much more dramatic than the previous The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day by director Roland Emmerich. It made me lose my breathe a few times as well as other people in the theater. I call him the "Disaster Master." I felt he wanted people to leave the theater with that one question in their minds, "What if...?" I know that was on my mind as well as "What would I do?" The prophecy in which the film is based on has been told for so many years but now that that the time is approaching another question forms in our heads, "Do you believe?" Do you believe that the world will end on December 21, 2012? Will there be shifts? Will the Yellowstone super-volcano erupt? Will California fall into the Pacific? Will giant tsunamis engulf the world in water? We'll never really know when. Do you think when our creator is ready to come will he give us a specific date or time? These are tough feelings and tough emotions. Who's to tell us when the world will end? It's an unsolved mystery. Until the time comes, no one will know for sure. The movie will leave you wondering.
Another point made in the film is "Will you be saved if there is a way to survive?" According to the film, people who had billions of dollars here safe and average people like me and you will never know what's happening. Now that the movie made that point clear, I'm sure people are wondering "What will they do when the time comes?" I know I did. Another point it makes is "Will you be at peace with God or your higher power?" and if you are, "Will you fear death and take the sacrifice?" I know I'm afraid to die but if I do I am at peace with God. This movie will make you think about plenty of things. I feel that people should go out to see this film. It will make you wonder, no doubt about it.

This Is It
I still can't believe that the documentary Michael Jackson's This Is It is the rehearsals and final days of the late King of Pop. I saw it November 1st at SOPAC Theater. Kenny Ortega recorded Michael for his own personal reasons not intending on releasing them but I am so glad he did. Even though I was so glad to see Michael doing what Michael does best, but at the same time I was sad because it was his final performances. I really enjoyed the film and it had that concert feeling. People who were in the audience were clapping and singing along. During the song Man In The Mirror, people were waving their hands from side to side. My mother, my boyfriend, my sister and I were enjoying ourselves so much. I wish he could have had a chance to do at least one show because he worked so hard to put it together. I can't wait to see it again. I love you, Michael!!! Rest in Peace.

Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire
I went to see the movie Precious in New York City this weekend and I felt it was a very moving movie. I don't want to describe the movie but it will bring out so many emotions. It took me on an emotional roller coaster but it made me feel blessed that I didn't have to experience what she did. She was such and strong girl to overcome her obstacles and help herself press forward. Tyler Perry and Oprah brought the book Push to life and opened up so many eyes to what goes on in society. Everyone should go see it.
